Slack Community

By May 20, 2019 No Comments

Did you know Slack is the fastest growing enterprise software ever? The people that make Slack great are the app creators and the community built by them. And today we are proud to announce the creation of the latest Slack Platform Developer Community, right here in Atlanta.

With over 1,500+ Slack apps in the directory, the dominating community of Slack App creators have built tools and resources to find each other. For example, you can search for Slack communities using a Slack community discovery database. Slack heard us loud and clear and they recently launched their own official Slack community. We are happy that Atlanta made the list early on thanks to the renowned software developers transforming our headquarters into a tech hub.

Slack  is aiming to be the most important software company in the world. It recently created community chapters in San Francisco and New York for people who are building on their platform. Building off the success of these official meetup communities, the Slack team reached out for Slack experts and our very own Brian Mullaney, CTO of Eletype, was tapped to head up the Atlanta Chapter of the Slack Community.

We’re really excited to be able to bring this to Atlanta.  There’s a great developer ecosystem and existing meetup culture that should be great for this new Slack Platform Community.  There are quite a few companies in ATL building conversational UI products and I feel it’s a great opportunity to advocate for that through community and education.

Q: What are your thoughts on the explosive growth in the Slack ecosystem?

A: It’s inspiring as an entrepreneur, but not surprising as a user. It’s become such an integral part of our business software stack – even before we were building a Slack app – that I can’t imagine not having it.

Q: What should members expect at these meet ups?

A: Free food and beer!  Other than that, we hope everyone can learn at least something new every time.  Other than that, I’m just going to facilitate whatever the community is looking for.  If you have ideas about what you’d like to see, come to our first meeting where we’ll be doing a planning session to get us pointed in the right direction.

Q: So when is the first meetup?
A: We’re having the first one on Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30pm. We’ll be meeting in the Community Room at the ATDC

Q: What’s your favorite lesser known Slack feature?

A: Snippets!  We paste a lot of code into Slack channels.  Clicking the [+] next to the message text box and clicking “Code or text snippet” in the resulting menu allows you to post a lot of code into the channel with syntax highlighting.  It’s so much better than “`code“`
